The tour begins with a visit to Sprangan, where your guide will show off his amazing spranga skills, which involve swinging from the cliff on a rope! You might even get a chance to try it too, if you so wish.  Sites visited include Stórhöfði (the windiest place in Europe) and, in the middle of the volcano Eldfell, you will hear the story of the 1973 eruption and how it affected your guide and his family.  Also on the itinerary is the Sæheimar Aquarium for a close encounter with puffin, and the Eldheimar exhibition to learn more about the 1973 eruption.  An optional boat tour takes you west of Heimaey to see stunning rock formations, sea caves and bird cliffs.

Please note: the RIB boat tour is available 15 May – 31 October and takes approximately one hour.  If you choose not to take the boat tour, or it is not running, you will have free time to explore the island on your own for approximately three hours.  If you take the boat tour, you will have around an hour’s free time after lunch.
