New Icelandic novel, hot off the press!

I’ve just opened my brand new copy of Hannah Kent’s Burial Rites. To be accurate, it was actually more than half an hour ago, it’s going to be a very absorbing read. I’m keen to get back to it so this will be short, but apart from the great smell of a new book, I have also got very excited about its authenticity. When I ordered the book I have to admit that I wasn’t sure about that because Hannah isn’t Icelandic. But I don’t think that’s going to be a problem at all. Of course,  I’ve been won over by the map at the beginning (!), and although I haven’t got to it yet, the book,  set in rural North Iceland, portrays the challenge for survival in Iceland’s formidable landscape.

I checked the publisher’s website to find out some more – sadly I’m off on a foray across the English Channel next week to support friend Lindsay on her solo swim, so will miss both the London events that are scheduled. The link is here so if you are a lover of Iceland or intrigued to know more.. here it is!
