Geologists on Tour?

Liquid Lights

Monday morning: Shopping in Reykjavik

It was light just after 10am this morning so soon after, I went out shopping in Reykjavik. I only needed to buy a few things to take back with me – some Icelandic food goodies to share with the group that are knitting with Ragga when she’s on tour in the UK at the end of February. Bonus is one of Iceland’s main supermarket chains, easily recognisable by the bright pink pig emblazoned onto a bright yellow background. Carrier bags to have in your collection? Maybe! Anyhow I have purchased a fine selection of Icelandic liquorice, chocolate covered raisins (which are really good), some interesting looking biscuits and a box of pancake mix. I’ve decided that I’ll do Shrove Tuesday in an Icelandic style this year.

If you’ve seen my Website or Facebook page, you’ll know about my connections to Ragga, or Ragnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, as she is professionally known. If you haven’t, suffice to say that when it comes to knitting and all things woolly the two of us are busy busy working on running wool tours and workshops both in England or in Iceland. She’s bringing a group to the Unravel festival at the end of February and then staying on to work on a fantastic Viking project at a primary school, and then meeting the recipients of my liquorice and chocolate purchases to spend a cosy afternoon running a friends and family  ‘fireside’ knitting fest. They’ve chosen to their ‘recipes’ and yesterday Ragga and I met up to order the wool…so all is set and our fireside group will be able to learn about Iceland, create their knitting projects and enjoy some authentic confectionery all at the same time.

While I was out in Laugavegur this morning, I couldn’t help noticing how beautiful the mountains looked. Laugavegur is Reykjavik’s main shopping street, and running off it there are a number of smaller side streets sloping steeply down to the edge of the bay, with a view of the mountains behind.
