With its unique ecosystem and varied birdlife, Lake Mývatn is one of the most beautiful areas of Iceland. On this afternoon and evening tour, your first stop will be at the spectacular Goðafoss waterfall en route to the lake. Your tour will also take in mystic Dimmuborgir (“Dark Cities”) – with its lava pillars and strange rock formations that have inspired sagas and folk tales – the warm underground river in the Grjótagjá rift and the geothermal area of Hverir, with its boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits. After a 3-course dinner with choice of meat, fish or vegetarian main course (included) at a country restaurant, you will visit the magical Lake Mývatn Nature Baths to enjoy around an hour’s relaxation (bathrobes and towels are available for hire) in a natural pool of geothermally-heated water set amid lava fields. At around 22:00, you head back to Akureyri, stopping en route to enjoy the Northern Lights or the Midnight Sun, depending on the season.
