The Vikings are Here!
March 4, 2014

It’s all starting to Unravel!

knittingWe are looking forward to catching up with old friend Ragnheiður Jóhannsdóttir at the Unravel festival of knitting, taking place at the Farnham Maltings in Surrey from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 February.

Ragga, who was taught by her grandmother, is an experienced knitter with over 40 years’ experience and is also skilled in herbal dyeing and spinning yarn – basically anything and everything to do with wool!

Her workshop, Icelandic Knitting in the Round, on Sunday 23 February, is already sold out but she is a regular visitor to Britain and offers knitting and craft workshops and tours both here and in Iceland.

Ragga also leads Wool Walks through the home of the Icelandic wool industry near Reykjavik, explaining the growth and cultural importance of knitting and finishing at the Alafoss Wool Shop, which houses an extensive range of woollen products and a tempting array of yarns and patterns.

design 2Iceland Traveller is working closely with Ragga – who is Director of her own company, Icelandic Culture and Craft – to feature knitting workshops in our tours.  These can either form the main focus of a holiday – for groups or individuals – or be included with other activities and excursions.

We will be available at Unravel on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February with information about our summer “unpackaged package” holiday and West Iceland Knitting Circle tours.   We hope to see you there!

For more information about Unravel and to book tickets go to the Farming Maltings website or telephone 01252 745444.
