LONDON WALKING Saturday March 2 2019

ROMAN SECRETS and FILM LOCATIONS OF SOUTHWARK

10:00 Start the day at Prêt a Manger, 11-15 Borough High St, London SE1 9SE. Nearest station is London Bridge

A guided and entertaining walk with Glyn Jones  – professional London Blue Badge Guide – for a fascinating insight into hidden Roman London. Stop for a coffee on the way, finish at St Paul’s at 13:00

The Romans arrived in the London area sometime around 43AD. Over the next 400 years, they left an indelible imprint on the infrastructure of what became England. Over the course of 3 hours, we’ll explore some of the remains of Roman London. We travel through the square mile from London Bridge, passing the site of a Roman fort or two, remnants of a Roman wall, a piece of pavement, the governor’s palace, an Amphitheatre and perhaps  even a roman temple. Extras include the Roman legacy and following in the steps of a famous wizard!  Glyn’s professional guiding takes him all over London and the UK.

“Thank you for being an excellent ambassador for a city you clearly love.“   You can look Glyn up in more detail here: www.jollygoodtours.co.uk

13:00-14:00 Snack lunch/coffee near St Paul’s. Suggest: Prêt a Manger Old Change House, 128 Queen Victoria St, London EC4V 4BY

14:00/14:30: Make an afternoon self-guided walk to find some of the film locations of Southwark. About 2 hours finishing at Borough Underground Station. It’s 20 mins on foot to Waterloo or a tube ride.

We’ll cross the Millennium Bridge and follow a trail through Southwark to find 10 film locations… Bridget Jones, Mission Impossible, The Avengers… about 2 hours. My film knowledge isn’t great so will focus on navigating and look forward to learning from everyone else!

As Glyn is a professional tour guide and is running the morning Roman walk as a professional event, the cost for members of our group and friends is at the special rate of £10 each. Please bring cash and pay on the day.

Please contact us to sign up for this walk. As Glyn is offering a professional walking tour, there’s a discounted price of £10 per person for the Roman Walk. The afternoon will be us guiding ourselves as usual, therefore it’s free.
