Iceland is one of the most photogenic destinations in the world, made even better with you in the frame! Gather a whole collection of must-have shots as you travel from one stunning location to another on the quickest available guided tour of the island.  Travel is in a small group,  by 16-seater minibus and accommodation is in comfortable, tourist class hotels often set in stunning locations.  If you prefer more leisurely travel, with considerably more time spent at each stop, we recommend one of our longer tours.

Leaving at 09:00 from Reykjavík bus terminal, your first stop is in the town of Borgarnes in West Iceland: fjord, sea, mountains, food stop.  Following a short hike on the Grábrók volcanic crater (beautiful dark red lava, big skies and views), you travel on towards North Iceland to Akureyri, the “capital” of North Iceland. Here there are attractive houses, botanic gardens, a church, pretty streets, harbour, dramatic mountains and in an hour, plenty to capture for your selfie gallery. Leaving Akureyri, stop at Goðafoss waterfall for a range of stunning backdrops and then it’s on to the charming ‘whale’ town of Húsavík where you stay overnight.

Dimmuborgir.arch.DSC03134 geology north iceland myvatnToday begins with a tour of the area around Lake Mývatn, noted for its rich bird life and extraordinary volcanic landscapes, also the location for some of the filming of ‘Game of Thrones’. There’s no shortage of unusual selfie locations today: pseudo craters at Skútustaðir, lava formations of Dimmuborgir, and a selfie-soak for an hour in the geothermally-heated Lake Mývatn Nature Baths. In the afternoon, you explore hot springs and bubbling mud pools before hiking in the magnificent surroundings of Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. From there, you travel through uninhabited highlands to a short stop in Egilsstaðir, before continuing along scenic roads to your overnight location at the small fishing village of Fáskrúðsfjörður in the East Fjords, where your estimated arrival time is 20:00.

DAY 3: TO THE GLACIER (400 km)

ice from jokulsarlon group south eastYour speedy tour around Iceland continues with a drive along beautiful fjords and past small fishing villages in East Iceland. There’s a short stop in the charming town of Djúpivogur and a lunch break in the town of Höfn followed by a chance to explore the spectacular Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon on a boat trip among the floating icebergs. This is a vital location for adding to your photo collection, striped icebergs are a must! There’s a final photo opportunity at the Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue before you reach your overnight accommodation in southeast Iceland at around 19:00.

The last day of your fast-but-fascinating journey around Iceland is full of highlights as you drive along the South Coast and around the Golden Circle route to Reykjavík. The first stop is in Vík, Iceland’s southernmost town, followed by another photo opportunity on the black lava beach and giant basalt cliffs of Reynisfjara. The waterfalls at Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfall provide excellent locations for a group selfie. Aim to get behind the waterfall at Seljalandsfoss, but be prepared to get wet! In the afternoon, there are 20-minute stops at the three most famous Golden Circle sites – Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area – where Strokkur (“The Churn”) erupts every few minutes – and at Thingvellir National Group geysir strokkur geyser golden circlePark, a UNESCO world heritage site as the location of the world’s first parliament. Your collection will be complete, it’s time to head back to your starting point. The estimated drop off time at the Reykjavík bus terminal is 19:00.

Please note: this tour covers a considerable distance (around 1,700km) and is aimed at those wishing to see as much of Iceland as possible in the least amount of time and who don’t mind spending several hours each day in the minibus (free Wi-Fi is available on board). As the trip starts from Reykjavík bus terminal at 09:00 on Day 1 and ends there at around 19:00 on Day 4, you are likely to need at least one night’s accommodation pre and post-tour, which we will arrange for you, or you can make this part of a longer stay. We recommend a day in Reykjavik so that you’ve covered all of those selfie locations too!
