October 2018 – Our group of 11 ladies completed their hiking challenge in Iceland in great style and with over £4500 raised for our two charities. It’s fair to say that we over-achieved on all counts.
Without doubt, we had a great trip and have all been affected by the experience. For four days we didn’t really see anyone outside our group, we were walking and staying in remote places where there was no one except us. By day we used our phones only as cameras and in the evenings only for must-do communication so we concentrated on the walking, having time to think and on the sights and sounds of the large landscapes that surrounded us. It goes without saying that as we were a bunch of ladies, we talked and laughed, A LOT! Fresh air, exercise, great food and laughter, it’s a winning combination and one that we are all committed to repeating. We ascended and descended in places that we hadn’t expected to and at angles we weren’t all sure we could manage, but the community ‘bubble’ of friendship and support that we all existed in during those days was magical and we all did everything and more than we’d dreamed of.
Gradually we are gathering reflections from everyone … all different, but as a representative picture, try this:
“Superb organisation, brilliant itinerary, perfect weather and excellent guides”
We stayed in more than one place, which was your favourite? The secret campsite was my favourite!
Which was your favourite excursion or activity and why? It was all brilliant with a fantastic variety, but the highlight was all the swimming in the hot rivers.
What was the highlight of the trip? The company! Achieving the hikes. The hot river and cooking at the campsite. Not having to think of anything for myself just follow along.
Please write a short comment to sum up your holiday. A challenge, an adventure a ‘swallows and amazons’ experience! No worries nothing to do just walk!
