This hike takes place on the southernmost glacier in Iceland where the ice can be up to 200m thick. It is about a 30-minute walk from the base to the glacier through a landscape formed by ice over thousands of years. It is now possible to see how fast the glacier has been melting over the last 15 years. After a safety briefing and a lesson in ice walking you will head on to the glacier to experience its unique terrain with crevasses, sink holes and ice ridges. A glacier walk can be included in a day tour of the south coast, and is also available on the Vatnajökull glacier.
