Iceland is renowned for many great things, and football could be the latest addition to the list. It’s amazing that with such a small population and a short summer season, Iceland has achieved its place in France for Euro 2016.
On a visit to the small town of Akranes a few years ago I was taken to see the town’s museum of sport. Although all of the information was presented in Icelandic, it was clear to see that the exhibits proudly reflected Iceland’s achievements across all their nationally recognised sports. Akranes itself has a very strong football tradition, and is one of the best teams in Iceland.
Whatever the outcome, we will be cheering Iceland on this evening in their first match against Portugal. Áfram Iceland!
