DF-11070-Edit - Ben Stiller in THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY.For the chance to see some of Iceland’s best but perhaps less well-known landscapes on a big cinema screen, check out Ben Stiller’s latest film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

It’s unusual for Iceland to feature in its own right on film.  So often its striking landscapes form the anonymous backdrop to movie action or television advertising.

Ben Stiller also used Iceland to create convincing settings for Greenland and for Afghanistan – although anyone who has been to Iceland will almost certainly have visited the waterfall at Skogarfoss on the South coast.  It was quite a surprise, therefore, to see Mitty apparently hiking through Afghanistan with this famous Icelandic landmark in the background. But maybe I have just spent too much time there!

For those yet to see Iceland for themselves, the sense of the open road, blue skies and huge landscapes is real enough and beyond Reykjavik there is so much to see.  One of my favourite places that the film used as a location is the harbour town of Stykkisholmur, in the Snaefellsnes area of West Iceland.   To see more click here.
