northern lightsPlease be aware that the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The best time to see them is between September and April, although you may be lucky enough to see them earlier or later in the year.

We suggest that, to give yourself the most chances to see the Northern Lights, we book you on an Aurora hunting expedition from one of our recommended providers on your first available evening in Reykjavík, which will take you away from the lights of the city. Tours, which include a pick-up from your hotel, can be by bus or by boat, or can be combined with a seafood feast or even a caving expedition. On most of these trips, you should expect to be out until after midnight. Please be sure to wear warm clothing and bring a hat and gloves.  For the Northern Lights Chase and Northern Lights by Boat, a decision is taken daily at 17:00 on whether the tour will operate, depending on how favourable are the conditions.  If it goes ahead, but the Aurora fails to appear, an alternative tour or full refund will be offered.
