Cruise passenger shore excursion: Goðafoss, Lake Mývatn, and Nature Baths (duration 8 hours)
Tour code SE10
For cruise passengers calling at the northern Icelandic city of Akureyri, who would prefer to see the sights in a small group, we are pleased to offer this guided minibus tour which is scheduled to coincide with the arrival and departure times of each ship. You will be met at the dockside and will be returned to your ship at least one hour before sailing. Private tours are also available, please ask us for details. On this day tour, the entry fee to the Lake Mývatn Nature Baths is included.
With its unique ecosystem and varied birdlife, Lake Mývatn is one of the most beautiful areas of Iceland. On this excursion, your first stop will be at the spectacular Goðafoss waterfall en route to the lake. Your tour will also take in mystic Dimmuborgir (“Dark Cities”) – with its lava pillars and strange rock formations that have inspired sagas and folk tales – the warm underground river in the Grjótagjá rift and the geothermal area of Hverir, with its boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits. Your last stop will be at the magical Lake Mývatn Nature Baths to enjoy a relaxing soak (bathrobes and towels are available for hire) in a natural pool of geothermally-heated water set amid the lava fields. Please note: the longest walking time on this tour is around 20 minutes across easy terrain. No meals are included but there will be a stop for refreshments at a café or restaurant.
Available: 1 May – 30 September
