New Year is most likely better then Christmas -and December is very good month to travel in Iceland and many good tours available for example South Coast, Skaftafell, Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, with glacier hiking and a northern light hunt.

Being in Iceland over Christmas and the New Year’s will deliver an amazing time in this country. It is very festive, families will decorate their houses with lights and if you get snow, it becomes really festive.  Remember like most Northern European countries Icelanders start Christmas at 6 pm on Christmas Eve, (24th December), and the festivities last until the 13th Day (12th Night), which falls on 6th January.

Bring warm clothing – a good coat is a must, and good shoes as you might get snow. Maybe bring your swimsuit for a visit to the Blue Lagoon and to one of their swimming pools.

New Year Eve is the time to be in Iceland. Icelanders spend 5 times more than London on their New Year’s Eve fireworks show.  Do not just believe me check out what Keifer Sutherland had to say after visiting Iceland for New Year’s Eve – “I saw probably the most extraordinary firework display in my life. There are no laws in Iceland with regard to fireworks, which make New Year’s Eve very interesting. It’s a small population but they spend over $15 million for fireworks for that night.’ See his video here

Unlike most countries that have 1 Father Christmas (Santa Claus character) Icelandic children are fortunate enough to be visited by 13 Yule Lads, so much more fun for longer !

Give it a try for an experience you will not forget.
