A group of ladies from Derbyshire UK booked a 6-night craft and sightseeing tour to Iceland and with a small tour bus and expert driver guide, they travelled from Reykjavík to the North of Iceland, staying in small, country hotels with one night spent in the capital.

During their tour they visited the Icelandic Hand knitting Association shop to meet a local textile designer, and choose knitting or crochet project to work. Also they visited the Textile Museum in Blönduós, which exhibits a unique collection of homemade wool & textile items and beautiful Icelandic national costumes and embroideries. The tour visited the workshop at Atlantic Leather, the only factory in Europe which makes high-quality leather from fish skin. They had time to do some sight-seeing in Reykjavík; driving along the stunning coastline of Eyjafjörður to Siglufjörður (once the centre of the herring industry and Iceland’s most northerly town) to visit the country’s second city Akureyri; following Iceland’s spectacular Golden Circle route, visiting Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall; and finally heading to the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing bathe en-route to the airport for afternoon flight home.

I am tired just reading what they did during the tour – never mind doing it.

Please note: if you can put together a group of six or more with an interest in knitting and textiles and would like to take a similar trip to the one outlined here, please contact us.  Departures can be at any time of year and the holiday can be for any number of nights.
